Polaris 9450 Sport Review

Polaris 9450 Sport Review

Robotic pool vacuums are relatively recent additions to your pool cleaning arsenals.

For decades, pool owners have had to put up with slow-moving suction filters and the long, unwieldy poles with nets or scrubbers attached to the opposite end.

Pool cleaning in those days was an arduous and time-consuming task that would often take up at least half your day.

And even then, you’d be lucky if you considered your pool 70% clean.

Then, robotic pool cleaners came into the scene, and the image of pool maintenance was forever changed for the better.

Suddenly, pool cleaning did not have to take up most of your day. In fact, you hardly have to do anything at all as the machine can operate independently of any outside control. All you needed to do was sit back, relax, and swim in an expertly cleaned pool whenever you wanted to.

Robotic pool cleaners are indeed great inventions that pool owners everywhere are thankful for, but to be honest, they’re not all created equally.

  • Some warrant the price they’re given by providing you with the most amount of convenience and cleaning efficiency.
  • Others are marketed to be the best of the best but end up being nothing but wastes of hard-earned money.

Which category does the Polaris 9450 Sport fall under?

Well, We tested it for a full 30 days in our home swimming pool, and want to share our thoughts with you below.

In this review, we’ll go over its features and weigh in on its glaring pros and cons.

We’ll do this all in an effort to see if the Polaris 9450 Sport is a robotic pool cleaner worth the purchase.

Polaris 9450 Sport Robotic Pool Cleaner

Polaris 9450 Sport Features

Here are some of the things we truly loved about the Polaris 9450

It Has 4-Wheel Drive!

Believe it or not, not all robotic pool cleaners are 4-wheel drive, but they should be!

The wheels of the robotic vacuum cleaner have to be designed well for several reasons:

  1. Firstly, they have to allow the machine to scale the walls and clean the waterline of the pool with relative ease.
  2. Another reason is that poorly designed wheels decrease the mobility of the machine and prevent it from overcoming obstacles.
  3. Finally, the wheels are essentially what makes contact with the pool’s surface.

If they’re not well-made, you’re left with skid marks and scratches running all over the surface of your beautiful swimming pool.

Thanks to the 4-Wheel Drive Technology of the Polaris 9450 Sport, none of these things will be a problem.

The unit maneuvers seamlessly under the water as it cleans every nook and cranny.

Vortex Vacuum Technology

What is 'vortex vacuum technology' you say? Well, In a nutshell, this feature means that the unit has an oversized suction intake that captures large debris and keeps it suspended in constant motion for long-lasting cleaning performance.

When paired with its pleated scrubbers, you have a robotic vacuum cleaner that can suck up anything from large leaves to small grains of sand with relative ease.

This powerful suction technology is also what facilitates its ability to scale and clean the pool’s walls.

It's got a freaking 7-Day Schedule Timer!!!

Okay, I may be a bit excited here, but with good reason!

If you’ve ever had an old pool cleaner model, you would remember that there was a time that you had to physically press a button in the unit itself to get it to start. It would run for about 1-2 hours and automatically turn off.

If your pool wasn’t completely clean by then, you’d have to fish it out, empty the filter, and press the button again.

This is a problem you won't encounter with the Polaris 9450 Sport.

The unit sports a weekly scheduler that allows you to set the specific days when it will automatically turn on and begin a cleaning cycle.

It's Easy to Pick Up & Get Out Of Your Pool

Those who have used another pool cleaner will understand what I mean here.

Speaking of the cumbersome chore of fishing your robotic pool cleaner out of the water, the Polaris 9450 Sport has a built-in system that allows it to float up to you with just a push of a button.

All you have to do when you want to attend to the machine is steer it to the edge of the pool and press the button on the caddy.

This tells the Polaris 9450 Sport to eject all the water out of its system and float to the surface where you can pick it up.

It’s that simple!

Comes With A Premium Caddy

The Polaris 9450 Sport comes with an easily assembled premium-designed caddy that allows you to wheel it around to where you want it to go.

This is an especially welcomed add on considering that the unit weighs in at about 44 pounds.

Though it’s not too heavy to carry, it might still be a turn-off for some people who aren’t into weight lifting.

The creators of the Polaris 9450 Sport obviously acknowledged this and added the caddy for good measure.

The caddy also sports all the buttons you need to control the unit from the surface.

We Love The Filter

The 9450 Sport has an all-purpose filter canister that has 4 times the capacity of other similar cleaners.

That means fewer filter cleanings (up to 70% less), and lower operating costs. If you ever had an extremely intelligent pool cleaner that sports an extremely small filter canister, then you know why this feature is such a blessing.

There’s nothing so annoying as receiving a notification on your phone that the filter you just cleaned 30 minutes ago needs to be emptied again.

The filter of the Polaris 9450 Sport is easily emptied with a simple shake and spray of water.

The unit also comes with a 60 ft. seemingly durable cable that also has a swivel that prevents tangling.

I have spent many, many hours of my life trying to detangle cords, hoses, and tubes. It’s not a fun thing to do and after a while, you start to wonder why no one has come up with an effective solution to this problem.

The cable of Polaris 9450 Sport is, I’m very happy to say, not prone to tangling. It can also be neatly spun around the back of the caddy as an easy storage solution.

The pool cleaner comes with a warranty but one should take note that the manufacturers’ warranties may not apply in all cases.

It really does depend on factors such as the use of the product, where the product was purchased, or who you purchased the product from.

Please review the warranty carefully, and contact the manufacturer if you have any questions.

Pros

  • Premium Features Make For A Very Convenient Pool Cleaner. With the Easy Lift System, Dirty Canister Indicator, and the inclusion of a premium caddy, you have a robotic pool cleaner that pools out all the stops to provide convenience and ease for the pool owner.
  • Lasts Longer Than Most Pool Cleaners. One of the most frustrating things when getting a machine as high-tech as this is having to replace it ever so often. As much as they cost, they can’t seem to get past 1 year. Luckily, many who have purchased the Polaris 9450 Sport have reported many years of loyal and efficient use.
  • Powerful Cleaning Performance. The pleated scrubbers, large filter canister, and Vortex Technology all work efficiently together to give your pool a superior clean in as little time as possible. The Polaris 9450 Sport is your ideal robotic pool cleaner for a medium to a large-sized swimming pool.
  • Energy & Cost Efficient. Compared to other robotic pool cleaning models, the Polaris 9450 Sport is up to 40% more energy efficient. In an era where energy is in short supply and the planet is under threat, being energy efficient is a good quality to have.

Cons

  • Not Ideal For Small Pools. Far be it from me to stop you from getting the biggest and best pool cleaner you want for your pool. But if we’re being realistic, small pools require much less maintenance than big pools. The Polaris 9450 Sport might prove to be too much for a smaller-sized pool.
  • Customer Service Might Be Hard To Get. Though not true across the board, for some the customer service team can be quite difficult to deal with. If you need help with troubleshooting the unit, we certainly hope the customer support is as efficient and effective as the machine itself.

Polaris 9450 Sport Review & Final Verdict (4.4/5)

And that was our review of the Polaris 9450 Sport. An amazing machine that is perfect for maintaining an amazing pool setup. The main reason to buy this machine is due to the premium features that go the extra mile inconvenience. On its ability to clean, there’s no question that the Polaris 9450 Sport can get your pool cleaned in no time.

If you're looking for something more simple and straightforward though, the Polaris 9450 Sport might be too much for your liking. Although, it’s important to say that a machine like this is an investment that’ll pay dividends in the long run, even for smaller-sized swimming pools.

When all is said and done, a pool cleaner, robotic or otherwise, is only as good as you deem it to be.

For what it's worth though, we would definitely recommend the Polaris 9450 Sport for purchase to anyone looking for a top-of-the-line robotic pool vacuum cleaner.
